World Space Week
“3…2…1…zero… Liftoff! ” Our school joined the World Space Week program which officially started on October 4, on the anniversary of the launch of Sputnik 1, Earth’s first artificial satellite by the Soviet Union in 1957.
This year’s global activities are planned to be organized under the title “The Moon: Getaway to the Stars”, so we dedicated our first day to ” the Moon conquer” through fine arts, lectures and workshops.
Group of fourth-graders used contrast, complementary colors, and a little bit of imagination to express their visions of the universe, celestial bodies, aliens and flying objects.
The second group played an association with chocolate names (CLIL based learning) through which they discovered the names of the planets of our Solar System and compared their distance from the Sun, using large numbers. The installation of the Solar System at our school helped them to visualize the main characteristics of each planet.
Kids from the our Daycare, aged 7 to 10 ) tried out mathematical picture books and made posters with planets while presenting themselves as astronauts.
For “Zmajeva” school, World Space Week is just an introduction to the later activities. Thanks to the entry into the ARISS project, we will arrange the radio contact with the International Space Station in June 2020….. And this blog will be our new place for sharing projects, news, ideas and lots of other activities connected to Space.
The World Space Week will last until October 10.
